Don't put mint in an herb spiral!

The herb spiral is the quintessential example of an element that embodies permaculture principles. Mimicking the spiral pattern that we see in nature, this space-saving garden bed creates different microclimates, allows you to grow several different herbs in a convenient 5 foot diameter area and is a beautiful addition to any garden.

However, when you look at a lot of the literature out there or the images of herb spirals, you often see mint included as a possible herb you might want to plant. Don't fall for it, as I did!  Adding mint to your herb spiral will turn it into a mint spiral. I now strongly recommend against this practice in my workshops. It's best to grow mint in a pot or in an area of your yard where it's okay for it to get out of control.

Check out the video below to learn how I turn this problem into a solution!
