Capture water, save money, grow food!
No water, no life. Capturing water is essential if we wish to have productive and edible spaces, especially in our dry climate. Understanding how water moves on your landscape and how to take advantage of it will make your gardens more productive and healthy, not to mention save you money! You will learn about water conservation strategies for your yard and garden, water-harvesting techniques such as swales, rain gardens and rainbarrels and participate in a hands-on activity of building a swale.
Swales are ditches that are dug following the contour of a slope. Used as a water-harvesting technique, they allow you to slow, spread, sink and store water on site. Swales allow you to capture this water and rehydrate your landscape! These can be earthworks for the backyard scale.
This workshop is part three of a four-part Permaculture Homestead Series. Although it is most beneficial to take all four sessions, participants can also take individual sessions.
Upcoming Workshop:
This workshop will be held in Bozeman. Please register in advance. Directions and details will be emailed upon registration. Cost: $45.
